What is the mind of Christ regarding our current reality?
This is the defining question for us as we move through this season of discernment. We are discerning together through 4 weekly questions that will speak to this question, through our core values, over the month. If you missed last week’s blog, you can read it here
This week’s question is:
What is the mind of Christ regarding our community?
This speaks to our core value of Indiscriminate Hospitality. We welcome people into our fellowship because Jesus welcomed people into his. It is not the healthy that need the doctor but the sick. And so, we recognize and embrace those whose lives do not conform to the standards of polite Christian culture trusting that as they encounter Jesus through the church that he will transform them into who he wants them to be by his Spirit.
Faithfulness to God is demonstrated in the extension of hospitality to the poor and the creation of friendship across social boundaries.
If you would like a starting point for some scripture passages to meditate on, I point you to the gospel of Luke and Jesus’ interactions:
Luke 5:27-31 Luke 7:36-50
Luke 15:11-32
Luke 19:1-10
Isaiah 58:6-7 is also a good passage. Obviously, there are others and follow the Spirit’s leading in your scripture reading and meditation.
Remember church, we need you. We need your voice – your life experience – your encounters with the living Christ to help us discern the mind of Christ in our current reality.
